Desolation Sound flights from Seattle

Many yachters regard Desolation Sound as not only the most beautiful and varied cruising ground in British Columbia, but as just about the best place anywhere in the world. Thanks to the variety of spectacular scenery, warm summer climate and abundance of sheltered anchorages, this area is a microcosm of all that is best about saltwater cruising in the Inside Passage. Sea kayakers also rank Desolation Sound among the best paddling areas Canada has to offer, with the 20,000-acre Desolation Sound Marine Park providing plenty of pristine wilderness campsites for those wishing to lose themselves among the countless coves, islands and inlets.

Campbell River is nestled on the east central coast of Vancouver Island. With its "back" to the snow-capped Vancouver Island Ranges and Strathcona Provincial Park and its "face" to Discovery Passage and the myriad channels and inlets around the Discovery Islands, the Campbell River area offers unlimited recreational opportunities both ashore and at sea. Long famous as the "Salmon Capital of the World," Campbell River today is as likely to attract kayakers, backpackers, divers, campers, yachters or fly fishers as it is saltwater anglers. A natural destination in itself, the Campbell River area is also the gateway to boundless outdoor recreation and eco-touring opportunities on the remote west coast of Vancouver Island or further up the Inside Passage.
