Seattle's Lake Union has been a hub of seaplane activity in the Northwest since 1916, when the first Boeing aircraft — a wooden two-seater — made its maiden flight from the lake. Kenmore Air's Lake Union terminal has almost as long a history, having been the headquarters of legendary Northwest seaplane pioneer Lana Kurtzer from the 1920s onward. Today, more than 100,000 passengers annually pass through the facility, making it handily the busiest commercial seaplane terminal in the United States.
