Pender Harbour is a complex maze of islands, lakes and reefs penetrating more three miles inland from the Malaspina Strait and comprising more than 100 miles of shoreline on the west side of the Sechelt Peninsula. Pender Harbour hosts the small oceanside communities of Madeira Park, Garden Bay, Irvine's Landing and Kleindale. Until very recently, most travel among these communities was by boat rather than the twisting roads, giving the area its nickname "the Venice of the North." Pender Harbour is an acclaimed vacation destination due to its convivial climate, spectacular scenery, fabulous outdoor recreation, numerous festivals and laid-back lifestyle. Accommodations around Pender Harbour range from the rustic to the luxurious, and with several major marinas, the area is also a paradise for yachters.Kenmore Air seaplanes serve two locations in Pender Harbour, Fisherman's Resort in Garden Bay, and the Madeira Park Public Wharf in Madeira Park. The former is the principal destination for passengers leaving or meeting boats in the major marinas, including the Seattle Yacht Club Garden Bay outstation. The latter destination — new in 2010 — is most appropriate for guests of Painted Boat Resort, Spa & Marina (walking distance) and Rockwater Secret Cove Resort (pick-up available by prior arrangement). Flights to Pender Harbour/Fisherman's Resort or to Pender Harbour/Madeira Park can be booked from Kenmore Air Harbor in North Seattle or from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with a nominally priced shuttle connection.
