Fall has arrived and in the San Juan Islands that’s cause to celebrate. As the summer sun begins to fade, the golden grasslands are turning green once again. The hum of tourists is all but a murmur. Locals can often be seen chatting on the corner and gathering in coffee shops. But one of the best reasons to celebrate the arrival of fall is Savor the San Juans.
This annual event showcases the top growers, wineries, breweries, distilleries, and chefs throughout San Juan Island, Orcas Island, and Lopez Island.
The 2016 lineup of events and specials promises to be the best yet. To help you make the most of your Savor the San Juan excursions, we’ve rounded up out top five tips.
Pick Your Events Now – Many of the 2016 Savor the San Juan events are reservation only. In order to ensure your spot at the table, we recommend you pick your events now and RSVP.
Make a Night of It – Dining and ditching might have been fun to gossip about when you were a teen. But, there’s nothing fun about rushing through a leisurely meal. Book a room on-island and give yourself a chance to linger. Enjoy each bite and savor every sip without worrying about getting home.
Don’t be Afraid to Island Hop – Just because you have dinner in Friday Harbor one night, doesn’t mean you can’t have dinner on Orcas Island the next.
Spend Some Time Strolling – One of the best things about fall in the San Juans is the slow pace. Gallery owners have more time to linger and talk about the pieces they are showing. Hiking trails aren’t nearly as crowded. Neither are the roads – making this an ideal time to a ride bike or moped.
Be Adventurous With Your Palate – Savor the San Juans is a time when chefs get to be adventurous. Be adventurous with them! They are often making unique pairings and introducing untraditional ingredients. You might just discover your new favorite food.
Savor the San Juans runs through November 12, 2016.
