As a Seattle-based travel and lifestyle blogger, Portia Smith knows how to find the best things to do and see – especially for families. A mom of two, she and her husband frequently take their little ones on adventures.
And, we’ve loved following along. In addition to great style tips and tasty recipes, Portia shares her travel ideas on her blog – Obsessed by Portia. So in early January, when she shared her 2017 goal to take her kids “out of the country,” we knew Victoria was just the place for them to visit.
Portia will be sharing her recap later this week. It includes a stay at the Chateau Victoria, a visit to the Butchart Gardens aboard a double-decker bus, and awesome spots to grab a bite. Here are a few quick little bits until then:
Was this your first time on a seaplane?
I’d been on a seaplane years ago, but this was a first for my husband and daughters. Definitely a bucketlist item for everyone!
What did your girls think of "traveling abroad”?
My girls were excited to explore, as always, and asked many questions! Customs made it fun for them when we returned and allowed them to stamp their own passports.
Do you have any tips about what to wear to make exploring Victoria more comfortable?
I brought three pairs of shoes - boots, sneakers and heels. Anytime you travel it’s nice to have a pair of jeans, something slightly dressy and only bring outfits you feel really good in. (Otherwise you probably won’t wear them!). Since Victoria is a walking city, I wore my Brooks Heritage Chariot Sneakers and dressed in layers. And we did the same for the kiddos.
You really maximized your 24 hours, but was there something you didn't get to see that you'd like to do next time?
Yes! I planned to take my girl’s to High Tea at The Empress Hotel, however, since we’re a boating family, they really wanted to explore the marina with my husband instead. I know they would have loved it, so it will be a must-do on our next visit!
